Glasgow weather: Freezing fog and wintry showers ahead from tonight as city temperatures plummet

Freezing fog and wintry showers are set to hit Glasgow with thermometers to plunge overnight.

Today, the city is basking in sunshine with dry, clear conditions for tonight – but the Met Office predicts a "widespread frost" will set in with some freezing fog patches developing later and a temperature of around -2 °C.

Clouds and fog will disperse with more sunshine on the way tomorrow and a milder 14C.

But it's not to last, with Glasgow to see rain, wind and overcast conditions on Easter Sunday and lows of -2C overnight.

The weather service said: : "A band of rain will sweep in from the north across the through the day, followed by frequent blustery showers that will turn to sleet or snow, even to low levels.

"A much chillier day on Easter Monday with continuing blustery, wintry showers. These showers will persist throughout Tuesday, and it will remain chilly."

Glasgow will escape the worst of the cold blast, however, with very cold northerly airflow seeing northern Scotland face rainfall of up to 15cm on highest ground with strong winds, lying snow, hail and blizzard conditions at times.

It might not be the bank holiday weather we're hoping for, but it could always be worse!
