Glasgow weather forecast for New Year's Eve as city set for rainy weekend

If you were hoping for a dry and bright end to 2021, we're afraid we have some bad news.

The folk over at BBC Weather have predicted that the day is going to consist of a lot of rain - although these will be mostly light showers, it's not exactly the forecast we were hoping for.

The gloomy weather is set to start as early as midnight on Friday (December 30) and continue well into the 31st.

And it won't stop there - with forecasters also predicting the rain will continue until approximately 11am and pick up again a few hours later at 4pm.

Weather forecasters have said it's set to rain all week - and sadly, this includes January 1 too.

Thankfully there are no current weather warnings in place for Glasgow. However it is expected to be chilly - so make sure you wrap up warm.

Detailing the weather for the New Year period, the Met Office have said: "Unsettled weather is likely to dominate most of this period with Atlantic weather systems continuing to arrive from the west. To begin, largely fine with brighter spells likely for some once rain clears eastward. Further rain arriving into the west and southwest later.

"Heading into January, further showers or longer spells of rain from the west are possible, perhaps bringing heavy rain to western hills. Drier, brighter and colder spells may develop between the rain at times, with spells of showers still possible.

"Driest conditions mainly confined in the southeast. Through this period, it will be rather windy with possible coastal gales in the west. Temperatures likely mild or very mild. A possible brief settled spell may develop towards the very end of the period."
