Glasgow weather: flooding problems across central belt with roads closed and trains affected

Heavy rains have caused major flooding across Glasgow and the wider area, with roads closed and train services affected this afternoon.

A section of the A737 at Linwood Toll in Paisley is flooded, with an ambulance (thankfully without a patient inside) running into difficulty and getting stuck in the floods.

With a video taken by a member of the public showing the ambulance stuck in the water alongside another vehicle, with fire crews in assistance.

One person tweeted: "I've never seen the roads so badly flooded in Paisley today...There's actually an ambulance stuck floating in water at the Linwood toll...I'm off the road too dangerous for my taxi today".

Renfrewshire Council have issued a travel update advising the public to avoid travelling around Lochwinnoch, Linwood Toll (Ferguslie) and Candren Road (Linwood) as their teams work to clear flooding across Renfrewshire.

Earlier today Traffic Scotland warned road users that surface water was affecting a number of routes across the country, advising drivers to take extra care when out and about.

Meanwhile ScotRail have confirmed that flooding is present on the railway line between Westerton and Anniesland to the west of the city.

As a result, services will either be reduced or diverted via Yoker.

A tweet from Scotrail reads: "We're seeing flooding on the railway between Westerton and Anniesland. For safety, services will be either reduced or diverted via Yoker. I'll update you as soon as I can".

The news comes as another weather warning was issued for Monday of next week - meaning Glaswegians and those in nearby areas face another week of wind, snow and rain misery.

The weather warning, in place between 9am and 9pm on Monday (February 24), covers much of the central belt and predicts a spell of windy weather and possible travel disruption as a result.
