Glasgow weather: Exactly when the snow and ice are likely to arrive according to the Met Office

Boxing Day can often be a duvet day for many of us - but with level 4 restrictions closing non-essential shops across mainland Scotland, we doubt you’ve had much of a choice today, Glasgow.

The lockdown restrictions have tightened from today, with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon urging Scots to stay at home or as local to their own area as possible.

But with Storm Bella battering us with wind and rain today and a snow and ice weather warning on the way tomorrow (Sunday), it might be just as well if you’re inside and cosy, swapping one set of pyjamas for another and making light work of that Christmas chocolate.

According to the Met Office, icy conditions and snowfall will affect much of the UK tomorrow (Sunday), with a yellow weather warning in place for greater Glasgow from 3am until 10am and then again from 6pm until 10am on Monday.

As reported on Glasgow Live, the national weather service warns that "icy surfaces are likely in many parts, with snow cover mainly in western Scotland, bringing difficult travel conditions" tomorrow morning.

“An area of rain, sleet and snow will move south through Sunday night with the potential for icy surfaces and some travel disruption".

Of course, the weather forecast can never be guaranteed - but a quick glance at the Met Office breakdown shows snow moving in on Glasgow in the early hours of the morning.

Sleet or snow looks set to hit the city in the early hours, around 1am and again at 6am. But between 7 and 10am, that changes to a 70% chance of snowing temperatures around 2 degrees - but feeling like -3C.

There are more snowy emojis on the later forecast, at 1-2pm and again into the evening, from 7pm onwards, right into the early hours of Monday.

All of that could change, of course - but the forecast as of 3.30pm today looks chilly, to say the least.

In short, we may not have seen a white Christmas…but your wish for a snow day could be on its way before 2020 is finally done with us.

Early indications for next week show low temperatures below zero, mist and fog - but we’ll keep an eye on the forecast for you, so we can bring you the latest updates for Hogmanay and New Year’s Day.

However you spend these in-between, festive-fog days, stay safe Glasgow - we hope you’re warm and cosy at home.
