Glasgow weather: City to miss out on heatwave as rest of UK set to sizzle

We'd pack away the factor 50 folks as Scotland is set to miss out on some pretty warm weather and it looks as though rain is well and truly on it's way.

The Met Office predicted yet another heatwave for the city in August after we saw highs of 30C in July, however temperatures, according to the weather forecasters, were set to peak again mid-August to make way an 'African plume'.

But now the chances of more BBQs are looking slimmer as recent weather updates show that Glasgow is set for a miserable month of rain and potential thunderstorms.

Today (August 12) is set to be mainly dry with sunny spells though a "scattering of blustery showers" are expected later in the afternoon which will turn into heavier rainfall over Argyll.

At 6pm however the city is set for more thunderstorms but they should settle before 8pm tonight. The wind will pick up and remain like this overnight around the west coast where showers will continue.

The forecast for Friday and the weekend is looking much the same with the city expecting thunderstorms on Friday around 4pm with showers and winds in some areas.

Thankfully there will be some sunny spells for Saturday and Sunday - though they won't last as long as we would have liked!

Here's the Met Office's long range forecast for August:

August 16 - 25

"A showery start to next week is likely with showers most frequent in the north and east of the country where it will also be breezy at times. The best of any drier and sunnier weather across the west and southwest.

"Moving further into next week and for the rest of the period, high pressure may become more dominant with many areas seeing more settled conditions.

"However, changeable conditions remain possible across parts of the north and spells of heavy showers or thunderstorms can't be ruled out across parts of the south at times.

"Temperatures expected to be around average for most for this time of year, though with some warmer weather in more settled spells."

August 26 - September 9

"Confidence is very low through this period. There are signs that the UK will continue to be under the influence of high pressure with settled weather more likely in the south.

"However, some spells of heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible at times. The north of the UK will probably remain changeable and often unsettled. Temperatures are likely to be overall near or slightly above average."
