Glasgow weather: City set for scorcher as temperature to reach almost 20C

It's been a chilly spring in Glasgow this year indeed.

We've been waiting patiently for the weather to climb past that 20C mark - for the first May in 40 years in Scotland to fail to do so.

It's even snowed at some points!

And as we have patiently drank our pints under massive umbrellas wearing our raincoats, finally the universe is giving us a bit of a break.

Temperatures in Glasgow are set to soar to around 18 degrees this weekend, with some places in Scotland going to be as hot as Portugal and Spain in the over 20s.

It'll start off pretty cold, wet and chilly - however, towards the weekend things are looking a bit brighter, according to the Met Office.

So dig out your bucket and spade - because you might be heading to the beach this weekend (so long as travel restrictions don't change...)

It's going to be 'taps aff' weather in Glasgow this weekend. (Media Scotland)

Monday, 24 May

A bright start but generally a rather cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, with the odd heavier burst possible. Fresh westerly winds, strong at times over coasts.

Rain turns more showery this evening with some late sunny spells developing. The showers become more isolated overnight with some long clear spells likely. Maximum temperature 14C.

Tuesday, 25 May

A bright day with some sunny spells but showers develop more widely through the morning and become heavy at times for the afternoon. Maximum temperature 15C.

Wednesday, 26 May to Friday, 28 May:

It'll be a bit of a cloudy start on Wednesday but will become brighter with a few showers. Thursday is to be dry with sunny spells. Friday starts cloudy with patchy light rain but brighter later. Warmer than of late. The maximum temperatures will be 17C.

The temperature will reach up to 18 degrees in Glasgow this weekend. (SNS)

Saturday, 29 May and Sunday, 30 May:

High pressure will be the largely dominant feature across the UK during this period, as it gradually builds in from the west.

This means it'll bring mainly fine and settled conditions across the whole of the UK, with temperatures recovering and feeling locally warm.

It's still possible there will be bits of cloudier weather and some rain at times, but it'll be mostly dry.

Temperatures overall are likely to be close to average for the time of year, with some warmer days balanced out by colder nights - and the maximum temperatures in Glasgow will reach 18C.
