Glasgow weather - city on snow alert with yellow Met Office warning in place

Glasgow is under a Met Office warning for snow and ice with the city to be in for yet another day of wild weather.

The yellow warning come into force at midnight (Wednesday) and will remain so until 12 noon.

Forecasters warn: "snow showers and icy stretches may lead to further disruption on Wednesday morning."

The snow and ice could be accompanied by strong winds, with possible gusts of over 30mph. Meanwhile, it could feel as cold as -3C around the city this morning.

The Met Office say:

  • There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
  • There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
  • There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
  • A small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • A small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable

Train services running to and from have already been disrupted this morning due to overnight flooding.
