Glasgow weather - city on flood alert as weather warning issued for heavy rain

Glasgow may experience flooding in some parts with heavy rain expected to fall today.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for rain, in place between noon and 3pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) say a flood alert is in place, warning: "There is a risk of localised flooding from rivers and surface water during this time. This may result in flooding of low-lying land and roads, travel disruption, and flooding affecting individual properties."

Early this morning, there have been several reports of flooding on Maryhill Road, near the West of Scotland Science Park, with a Mini said to be stuck in the middle of the road.

The Met Office say their weather warning will affect most of Scotland, with their forecast for the weekend advising: "An area of heavy rain is expected to become slow-moving across much of Scotland, especially affecting western and central hills."

And they say that means:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

And after the heavy rain we're told to expect the sunshine to return on Saturday night and Sunday, though it will be cloudy and pretty mild, with temperatures of around 15C and scattered showers.
