Glasgow weather: City on flood alert as Met Office extend heavy rain weather warning

Glasgow is on flood alert amid a warning of heavy rain set to fall on our city over the next 24 hours.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) have issued the alert for the entirety of West Central Scotland, while a yellow Met Office weather warning is already in force and will remain in place until 3am on Thursday morning, having just been extended.

SEPA warn of potential travel disruption and damage to properties and say: "Heavy rain is forecast to affect the area on Wednesday. This could cause flooding impacts from rivers and surface water during Wednesday and into early Thursday morning.

"The greatest risk is to the west of the area.

"Potential impacts include flooding affecting properties, localised flooding of low-lying land and roads, and disruption to travel."

Meanwhile the Met Office advises journey times may take longer due to the likely travel disruption throughout the region:

"Heavy rain will persist throughout Wednesday, with some disruption likely due to flooding."

What to expect

  • Bus and train services affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads will make journey times longer
  • A few homes and businesses flooded
