Glasgow weather: City braced for wet and windy weekend as Storm Aiden sweeps across the UK

Glasgow is braced for a wet and windy weekend as Storm Aiden brings heavy rain and strong winds across the UK today, followed by the remains of ex-Hurricane Zeta on Sunday.

The Met Office has issued two Yellow weather warnings for Strathclyde area for wind and rain, with the possibility that we could see 24-hour rainfall totals reach 10-20mm widely across central and western areas, with 20-50mm across parts of Glasgow and areas west and south of the city.

As it stands, the Yellow warning for rain is in place for the Glasgow area until 7pm this evening, with the Yellow warning for strong winds in place until 9pm tonight.

Heavy rains are expected to lead to a chance of travel disruption and flooding, with very strong winds possibly leading to some disruption also.

Traffic Scotland are advising road users are to use caution crossing the Erskine Bridge due to the high winds currently affecting driving conditions.

ScotRail have also advised rail users to check their journey before they travel, with speed restrictions already in place on services from Glasgow Queen Street to Oban and Mallaig.
