Glasgow weather: city and surrounding area on flood alert amid heavy rainfall

A flood alert has been issued for Glasgow and the surrounding area following heavy rainfall in the city this Sunday.

The rain is set to ease off a little later this evening, however heavy downpours are expected once more through the night and into Monday morning.

Meanwhile, forecasters predict there'll be wind gusts of over 45mph in the coming hours.

Flood alerts are in force throughout much of the country, including West Central Scotland, with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) warning: "An updated FLOOD ALERT has been issued for West Central Scotland.

"This alert is for river and surface water flooding. Locally heavy rain may affect the west of the area during Sunday and Monday.

"There is a risk of isolated flooding of low lying land and roads from surface water and smaller watercourses.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property."

The Met Office forecast suggests the rainy spell will end on Monday afternoon and make way for more sunshine towards the end of the week.
