Glasgow Warriors positive COVID-19 test confirmed as trio to self-isolate ahead of Ospreys clash

Three Glasgow Warriors players are self-isolating after a positive COVID-19 test within the squad.

One player tested positive for the virus while two of his "close contacts" have been forced to go into isolation.

The news comes just two days prior to their Guinness PRO14 clash with Ospreys in Cardiff.

Glasgow training was cancelled today but Saturday's match will go ahead as planned, according to the club.

The club said in a statement: "Glasgow Warriors can confirm a squad player has tested positive for COVID-19.

"This was identified through the club’s stringent screening and testing protocol and the player started self-isolation immediately as per Scottish Government guidelines. Public Health Scotland’s contact tracing subsequently identified two other players who had close contact within the squad bubble and are also isolating.

"Training at the club was cancelled on Tuesday (20 October) as a precaution. The Guinness PRO14 match versus Ospreys in Swansea on Saturday (24 October) will go ahead as planned.

"The club continue to operate an extensive health and safety coronavirus mitigation plan and follow all respective public health guidance aligned through Scottish Rugby's Threat Management Group. To respect medical confidentiality Glasgow Warriors will not name the individuals affected."
