Glasgow Warriors join Celtic and Rangers in social media boycott as they stand up to online hate

Glasgow Warriors have become the latest sports club to announce they will boycott social media this weekend.

The Pro14 side will stay off social media from Friday at 3pm until 11.59pm on Monday night in a bid to combat racism and online hatred.

Scottish football clubs in both the men and women's game have already announced they will do similar with Celtic and Rangers both boycotting.

And now Glasgow Warriors will join them as they look to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with players and staff who have been regular victims of abuse online.

A short statement from the club said: “Glasgow Warriors are joining other sports bodies, clubs and companies in a social media boycott this weekend as part of a drive to tackle online hate.

“The move, which has the support of our professional players via Rugby Players Scotland, will see our social media accounts fall silent from Friday 30 April at 3pm BST until 11.59pm BST on Monday 3 May.”

Both sides of the Old Firm are also showing their support by staying off social media this weekend and it means neither side will comment on the Premiership clash between the sides on Sunday at Ibrox.
