Glasgow Warriors 17-13 Cardiff Blues: Aled Summerhill's try not enough to stop Scots in Guinness PRO14

Cardiff Blues came close to breaking Glasgow Warriors' stranglehold over them at Scotstoun in the Guinness PRO14 on Saturday night.

But they were unable to get their nose in front during an encounter which had started in blitzing fashion before petering out.

The rivals seemed to cancel each other out and the second half was hugely disappointing.

Flanker Olly Robinson, with his outstanding work at the breakdown, led the resistance for the Blues as they frustrated opponents searching for a first win of the campaign.

However, the damage was done in the opening eight minutes with Warriors having raced into a 14-point lead through tries from captain Callum Gibbins and scrum-half import Nick Frisby.

Flanker Gibbins was driven over following a line-out while Australia international Frisby scored in support of a break by the centre Nick Grigg, who invariably seems to save his best for matches with Wales' regions.

Blues responded with a gem of a try from Aled Summerhill, the wing having come into midfield to race on to a lovely defence-splitting delayed pass from outside-half Jarrod Evans.

Evans converted and added a conversion for the Blues to trail by four points going into the interval.

Thomson and Evans swapped penalties early in the second half and that was it as far as points were concerned.

Defeat means Blues are fifth in Conference B of the PRO14 with Glasgow occupying the same position in Conference A.
