Glasgow voted one of the best cities for young entrepreneurs outside London

Glasgow has been narrowly beaten to the top spot for the best city in UK for young entrepreneurs outside of London.

The Institute for Youth Policy (IYP) has analysed the merits of thirty of the country's urban centres from the perspective of someone starting their own business – and reviewed fifty different towns and cities to find the ones that rivalled the big smoke.

Bristol ended but taking the crown but thanks to our access to talent, sources of funding, levels of innovation and liveability , our city came in number five, beating the likes of Cardiff, Leeds and Liverpool.

The full results of our study can be found here, but judges say Glasgow stood out for its active entrepreneurship strategy, fast growing economy, strong collaboration between academia and business, and transport links.

Institute for Youth Policy said: "Fostering entrepreneurship is key and Glasgow has lead the way in creating a support network for new ventures, and through increased engagement across the public and private sectors, including academia.

"In particular, Glaswegians have been proactive in encouraging young entrepreneurship and provide a number of free resources both on and offline to this end."

And at least we beat our neighbours in Auld Reekie, who came in at spot no. 8.
