Glasgow University working to bring home 19 students on exchange programmes in Hong Kong

Students at the University of Glasgow who are participating in exchange programmes in Hong Kong are being recalled home amid escalating civil unrest.

Protests have been ongoing for more than five months, with demonstrations becoming increasingly more violent and disruptive recently - with the BBC reporting yesterday (Thursday, November 14) that one person died during clashes.

This afternoon the university issued an update via Twitter which reads: "We’re in close contact with our 19 students who are in Hong Kong and have been supporting them to stay safe and arrange travel home.

"All students have been advised of emergency contacts that they can use at any time."

Glasgow Uni's move to bring exchange students home follows similar reactions by the University of Aberdeen and the University of Edinburgh, who have 10 students and 21 students respectively in Hong Kong on partnership programmes.
