A suspicious package has been found in the University of Glasgow's mailroom on the main campus.
Several of the university's buildings had been evacuated on police advice following the discovery of a suspicious package.
A second package was examined at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh but police have since said it contained promotional goods and that it was no risk to the public.
Police Scotland said: "Around 10:50am, police received two reports of suspicious packages found at the University of Glasgow and the Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh.
"Emergency services are in attendance and both buildings have been evacuated.
"At this stage there is nothing to link these incidents.
"The items will be examined and enquiries are ongoing."
A separate statement from Edinburgh police later said: "Enquiries have established that the package posed no risk to the public and contained promotional goods. The area surrounding the building has been reopened and the public are thanked for their patience whilst this incident was ongoing."
Glasgow University said the closed buildings were the mailroom, the Officer Training Corps building, the Wolfson Medical Building, Bower Building, Isabella Elder Building, Boyd Orr Building, Joseph Black Building, and the James McCune Smith Learning Hub site.
A spokesman for the university said classes have been cancelled for the rest of the day as investigations continue.
University Avenue and University Gardens have also been closed temporarily as a "precautionary measure."
One witness nearby posted a video of police cordoning off a road leading to the university and said a fair had been cancelled.
Another said police, fire brigade, ambulance and an incident response unit was attending and "everyone had been evacuated from their buildings."
