Glasgow University confirms three coronavirus cases as all face-to-face teaching halted

Three people from Glasgow University have tested positive for deadly coronavirus .

The institution confirmed all three individuals are self-isolating, and all face-to-face teaching lessons have been stopped.

Course paperwork and teaching materials will be available online for all students.

In a Twitter statement the University said the cases 'are expected' given the outbreak across the country.

It is not known if the individuals are staff or students at the Scots institution.

A spokesperson added: "We're working closely with Health Protection Scotland and will remain open – though, face-to-face teaching will cease from Monday, March 16.

"As a precautionary measure we are in touch with Glasgow University Student Council, the student unions and others across our campuses to discuss postponing events such as conferences.

"Some of these have already been cancelled. We will continue to provide updates on these planned events.

"We would like to reassure you that we are taking all precautions and in contact with Health Protection Scotland.

"We'll continue to monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates as soon as we can."

The University itself will not close with most facilities - including the University of Glasgow Library - to remain open.

The news comes as 85 people across Scotland are confirmed to have coronavirus, with one patient dying in the Lothian area on Friday.
