Glasgow under weather warnings as heavy rain and strong winds bring flood alert

Two separate severe weather warnings are in place for Glasgow this morning, with the city already having been hit with heavy rain and strong winds.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) have issued a flood alert for large parts of west Scotland.

Several parts of the UK are set to be battered by Storm Brendan today, including a large area of west central Scotland.

The first of two weather warnings came into place at 5am this morning, with the Met Office forecasting strong winds, including gusts of up to 50mph, expecting up until 5pm when the warning ends.

A second warning for rain has been issued for 6am this morning, which will be in place until 5pm this evening.

SEPA advise: "Heavy rain coming in from the west overnight is likely to cause difficult driving conditions for morning rush hour.

"Continued rain will mean a risk of localised flooding of low lying land and isolated properties."

Meanwhile, the Met Office advise of potential travel disruption as a result of the severe weather.

They say:

"Heavy rain and gusty winds may lead to travel disruption and localised flooding.

What to expect:

  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely"
