Glasgow under weather warning this weekend as whole of UK set for strong winds

A fresh weather warning has been issued for Glasgow, with the city set to battered by strong winds once again.

The yellow warning, which covers the whole of the UK, has been put in place for this weekend, coming into effect at 6pm on Saturday and lasting all the way through until one minute until midnight on Sunday night.

The Met Office warn of potential travel disruption as a result, with wind speeds in Glasgow anticipated to get up to over 55mph.

Forecasters say we can anticipate 'very strong winds may bring disruption to parts of the UK later this weekend', adding:

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport expected
  • Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
  • There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs

Meanwhile, the strong winds will also be accompanied by heavy rain throughout the weekend.
