No Glasgow to Edinburgh train or replacement buses running today amid strike and major work chaos

No trains or replacement buses will run from Glasgow to Edinburgh today due to strike action, Scotrail has confirmed.

The major route will not be running due to both engineering works and trade union strike action.

Trains have been delayed or cancelled on Sunday's for a number of months due to strike action.

Some trains between Glasgow and Ayr, Largs and Gourock will be running throughout the day.

Scotrail bosses confirmed the news on Twitter writing: "On Sunday, September 5, there will be NO ScotRail services or replacement buses running between Edinburgh and Glasgow on any route due to engineering works and trade union strike action."

Scotrail bosses told people on social media their tickets were valid for use the following Monday or for a "partial refund".

Ticket holders blasted the situation with one writing: "When is this strike going to end, it's been extended so many times now and the fact you don't even bother supplying replacement buses either is just ridiculous."

Another said: "Yep. This is why I am trying to sell my Riverside ticket, thanks ScotRail"

Another called it a "complete farce", writing: "Couldn’t pay for a couple of coaches? Absolute nonsense."

The news comes after it was confirmed this week that fares for trains running between Glasgow and Edinburgh had risen to £30.
