Glasgow trains to Edinburgh disrupted after major flooding

Commuters are facing major delays this morning after flooding on the line between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

ScotRail has confirmed that the lines at Craigndoran have flooded as a result of heavy rain in the Central Belt.

Services from Glasgow to Edinburgh via Helensburgh have been cancelled.

Trains between Balloch and Airdrie and between Dumbarton Central and Springburn are running normally and commuters are being advised to use these services to and from Dumbarton Central.

A statement from Scotrail reads: “Due to severe weather between Craigendoran and Helensburgh, train services to and from Helensburgh are being disrupted. This is due to high winds and heavy rain causing flooding on the line."

They then added that waves are crashing over on to the overhead power lines at Craigndoran.

They said:  "Staff from Network Rail are on site, but no electric trains are being allowed through the area just now."

Meanwhile Network Rail shared a video showing high waves coming over the sea wall at Saltcoats which are causing the overhead power lines to 'trip' out.

Services are currently unable to run between Kilwinning and Largs/Ardrossan Harbour.
