Glasgow tower block evacuated as firefighters tackle early morning blaze

Residents have been evacuated from a Glasgow block of flats after a fire broke out in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to a high-rise on Lincoln Avenue in Knightswood at 4.08am after blaze started on the 17th floor of the building.

Firefighters tackled the blaze throughout the night, and Scottish Fire and Rescue have confirmed that all residents in the building have been safely evacuated with no casualties.

Nine fire engines were sent to the building, and fire crews remain at the scene.

A spokesperson from Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We were alerted at 4.08am on Sunday, August 1 to reports of a fire within a residential building.

“Operations control mobilised nine appliances to Lincoln Ave, Glasgow, where the fire was affecting the 17th floor of the multi-storey block of flats.

“Residents from the 17th and 18th floors were removed and the fire is being extinguished.

“There are no casualties.

"We presently remain at the scene.”
