Glasgow to see thunderstorms as weather to switch up over the weekend

Forecasters have warned that Glasgow will see a switch up in weather over the weekend, as the city experiences high temperatures and dry conditions over the coming days.

Meteorologists at BBC Weather have predicted that rain, thunder and possible lightning will hit the city of Glasgow by Sunday evening - with most of this due to the heatwave Scotland is experiencing.

According to the Met Office, thunderstorms are created by intense heating of the Earth's surface, they are most common in areas of the globe where the weather is hot and humid. With the constant high temperatures and humid conditions in Glasgow, a thunderstorm at the end is rather common.

The warm weather will continue on into Saturday, with highs of 27 degrees and lows of 10 degrees - and Sunday is much of the same during the day. Sunday will be a calm day for the most part, reaching 25 degrees by 2pm and cooling off by 8pm in the evening.

The rain will then begin at 9pm, and thundery showers will continue on from 10pm throughout the evening - finally ending at 7am on Monday, August 15. The stormy weather will also make a reappearance on Monday night, starting at 6pm and lasting until 9pm the same evening.

Next week also looks to cool off in terms of temperatures in Glasgow, with highs of 19 degrees, and cloudy skies also to come. Rain is also expected from Wednesday, August 17 with some sunny intervals.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday (August 13 to August 15)

Saturday is expected to be a dry and fine day with long spells of warm sunshine. Sunday will have a dry but rather cloudy start with just a few brighter spells. A few showers may develop during the day, particularly in the afternoon.

Monday looks to be an unsettled day with outbreaks of rain, these likely to be heavy and persistent in places. Trending cooler.
