Glasgow to learn Eurovision 2023 fate on Friday with city heavy favourite to host

The host city of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest will be announced by Graham Norton on Friday evening.

Following weeks of campaigning, it will be revealed whether Glasgow or Liverpool successfully won their bid to hold the iconic competition. The two cities are the only remaining contenders following a whittling down of the shortlist.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, and Sheffield were all in contention to host the Eurovision Song Contest. It followed the news that the UK would hold the event due to last year's winner Ukraine being unable to host amid its ongoing war with Russia.

The UK's entrant Sam Ryder placed in second in the 2022 competition, with his song 'Space Man'. He will make the host city announcement alongside Eurovision commentator Graham Norton.

Norton stated on Thursday that he would be announcing the 2023 host city on Friday evening. Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, he revealed that the announcement would be made on the BBC One Show.

Graham commented: "Myself and Sam, on Friday night, we will be discussing where Eurovision is going to be — because we’ll know by then."

According to the latest odds, Glasgow is the heavy favourite to win its bid the host the event. According to betting website OLBG, the probability of the city hosting Eurovision is 66.7 per cent, while the probability of Liverpool hosting is 38.1 per cent.

Entertainment Betting Expert at OLBG Steve Madgwick added: "Glasgow are the 1/2 favourites to host next year's Eurovision Song Contest with bookies giving them a 66 per cent chance of holding the show in the Scottish city."

Graham Norton will reveal the news on the BBC One Show, which airs from 7pm to 7.30pm on Friday.
