Glasgow to be hotter than New York today – city basks in sunshine and a balmy 25C

Glasgow is set to be hotter than New York today as the city enjoys some much-needed summer weather.

Our city is basking in sunshine and temperatures of 25C – with an especially warm and very sunny evening ahead according to the Met Office.

It's all thanks to a Saharan plume sweeping across southern Europe.

Meanwhile over in the Big Apple – usually hot and humid in the summer months – cloud and heavy showers will hit the city with the mercury peaking at a cooler 24C.

Severe storms ripped through the state bringing torrential rain and wind to the city following a mind-melting heatwave – with flash floods in Brooklyn and Queens and powercuts reported across parts of Manhattan.

Unfortunately for Glasgow, the glorious weather is not to last – with thundery showers on their way from the south overnight with a chance of heavy downpours.
