Glasgow Tinder gets 'serious makeover' thanks to COP26 climate summit

Glasgow Tinder has had 'serious makeover' thanks to the arrival of thousands of delegates for COP26.

Around 30,000 delegates have flooded the city from across the globe for the climate summit, which runs until November 12 at the Scottish Event Campus on the banks of the Clyde.

And while the pubs and restaurants have no doubt reaped the rewards to be had from the huge increase in visitor numbers over the past week or so, it seems those choking for a winch haven't slept on the chance to get swiping right either.

One Glaswegian took to Twitter to issue an alert at their presence, writing: "International delegates on tinder I repeat international delegates on tinder!!!" before adding: "Making the climate conference *work for me*."

A fellow Tinder user responded to the tweet with: "So many! Glasgow Tinder has had a serious make over."

Even non-Glaswegians have been quick to get the miles on their distance radar stretched to cover the city, with one writing: "Extending the distance on tinder to reach Glasgow to pick up a rich, climate conscious sugar daddy during cop26."

Joining them was another keen dating app user who wrote: "There are A LOT of horny COP26 people in Glasgow at the moment. That is if my Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Okcupid, POF, EHarmony, Turn Up, FabSwingers and Grindr apps are anything to go by."

As ever there's others out there who haven't been too impressed with the 'talent' on show, with one French visitor the city referencing a famous 'renegade' Nevada desert hippie festival by writing: "Glasgow Tinder is a kind of Burning Man".

Glasgow Live reached out to Tinder to see if they'd noticed a marked increase in usage of the app during the COP26 summit.

Although they couldn't provide specific insights into an increase in usage of the app in the city, they confirmed that mentions of 'COP26' on Twitter bios have increased by nearly 50% and 'climate change' by 15%.

A Tinder spokeswoman said: "We're not able to provide insights regarding increase in usage on Tinder in Glasgow, but what I can share is that Glasgow is the 8th most popular city for Brits to 'passport' to (Passport being a paid function in Tinder which enables you to change your location.)

"We can also share that 'environment' is a popular 'interest' that members add to their Tinder profile (particularly those aged 18-25, Gen Z). And since September mentions of 'COP26' have increased x43 in Tinder bios and +15% for 'climate change'."
