Glasgow Tesco Clubcard shoppers see major change as supermarket slashes rewards scheme value

Tesco Clubcard holders are set to see some changes to the way that they shop with the value of the rewards scheme set to be slashed.

The supermarket sent emails to customers telling them they are reducing the value of Clubcard vouchers when they are spent with Rewards partners such as theme parks, cinemas, and restaurants.

The changes are set to take place from June 14 of this year with Clubcard points set to be worth twice their value rather than three times where they currently stand.

As well as informing customers by email, the retailer also announced the changes on its website. The update reads: "From 14 June 2023, when you exchange your Tesco Clubcard vouchers for a Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner code, they'll be worth 2x their value.

"You'll still get up to 3x the value until June 13, 2023. We're making this change to the scheme to make sure we can continue to provide a wide range of rewards that meet the needs of all our Tesco Clubcard members, while keeping prices low for everyone.

"Tesco Clubcard continues to have the biggest and most generous reward partner scheme with access to over 100 Partners at 2x your Clubcard voucher value."

Clubcard points are valid for two years but usually expire after six months when they are swapped for rewards. However, Tesco is extending the validity of rewards for an additional six months in the run-up to June 14.

In a statement, Tesco added: "To give you extra time to decide when to use your Tesco Clubcard vouchers with Partners, we’re extending the validity period on Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner codes ordered until 13 June, so that they’re valid for 12 months, rather than the usual 6 months. So don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to use them at their current value before we make the change.

"If you already have a Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner code, you can still use it at up to 3x the value until its expiry date. The expiry date can be found in your order email or in the My rewards section in the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app.

"Doubling the value of Tesco Clubcard vouchers with our Tesco Clubcard Reward Partners is a convenient way to make your money go further on things like family fun, dining out, at-home entertainment, cinema trips, and holidays."

After finding out the news, many customers were not keen on it being slashed with one saying: "Dear @tesco. Just got your email to tell me that the Clubcard voucher exchange value is now worth only up to 2x as much, not up to 3x the value anymore. Really disappointing, as we love our Clubcard treats. Not that long ago they were worth up to 4x the value."

Another said similar adding: "Dear @tesco. Just got your email re clubcard voucher exchange value changing to 2x, not 3x the value. Really disappointing! Not that long ago they were worth 4x the value. Are you not making enough profit already?"

"#Tesco #clubcard now only worth x2 - gee thanks #Tesco - you really care about your loyal customers - not. Maybe time to shop elsewhere. #TescoClubcard" tweeted a third.
