Glasgow support worker shoved remote control in vulnerable woman's mouth

A Glasgow support worker has been banned from the profession for being abusive towards vulnerable people in his care.

Clark Findlay was employed by Quarriers when he was found to have threatened a service user and physically abused another.

While on shift on December 10, he pushed a woman's hand away from him and shouted "get aff me" before telling her she was "f*****g p*****g me off now".

He then put a remote control in her mouth, told her to "shut up" and repeated, "you're p*****g me off the day".

Findlay also told another service user to "shut up" and threatened them by saying "any more of your s**t I’ll take you down to play tig with the buses".

The support worker was hauled in by the Scottish Social Services Council after his behaviour was brought to light. They found that his fitness to practise is impaired because of his misconduct.

Their report found his behaviour to be physically and verbally abusive, threatening and intimidating. He was found to have caused the people involved distress and at risk of emotional harm.

It adds: "Your behaviour is a misuse of the power and position placed in social service workers, while also placing service users at risk of harm. Your behaviour involves acts by you which fall far short of the standard of conduct expected of a worker registered with the SSSC.

"The SSSC consider that there has been a pattern of behaviour. You have accepted some of your behaviour was wrong, while denying the physical abuse. There is little evidence of any real remediation or insight."

It was concluded that Findlay should be removed from the SSSC register and banned from working in the profession.
