Glasgow Subway worker knocked unconscious in violent attack at Buchanan Street station

British Transport Police are searching for a man after a member of Glasgow Subway staff was violently attacked and knocked unconscious at Buchanan Street station.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the evening of Saturday, May 15 in Glasgow city centre, after the security staff member was approached by a man and punched in the face.

The victim was rushed to hospital and was left with serious facial injuries.

Police say the suspect fled from the station, which was busy with football supporters at the time.

They've now launched an appeal to the public and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.

A British Transport Police statement said: "Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man was violently assaulted at Buchanan Street Underground Station North entrance.

"At around 8.30pm on Saturday May 15, the victim, a member of security staff at the station, was approached by a man and punched in the face, knocking him unconscious and causing serious facial injuries.

"The man then ran away from the scene and the victim had to attend hospital for treatment to his injuries.

"At the time of the incident the city centre and station were extremely busy with football supporters. Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

"Witnesses or anyone with information can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 214 of 16/05/21.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Update: British Transport Police have issued a correction, advising the incident took place on Saturday May 15, not Sunday May 16.
