Glasgow Subway returns to normal service for first time since coronavirus lockdown in March

The Glasgow Subway is returning to normal service for the first time in months.

Services were cut back in March at the height of the coronavirus crisis.

Transport bosses decided to close the underground system early, with the last S ubway leaving St Enoch at 9pm.

It has now been reverted back to the normal times of 6.30am to 11.40pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6.22pm on Sunday.

There will be trains every four minutes at peak times and every six-to-eight minutes during off-peak times.

The changes come as pubs and restaurants reopen to customers. Essential and non-essential businesses are also back up and running with shoppers returning to the city centre.

As previously reported by Glasgow Live, passenger journeys have fallen by 97% on the  Subway since the pandemic took hold.

SPT continued to operate Subway services and maintain 'strategically necessary' bus services to allow key workers to continue to travel to and from work.

As a result, SPT said that it could be looking at losses of between £12.5m and £20m for the current financial year.
