Glasgow Subway 'historian' shares bellybutton secret of inner and outer line

In Glasgow you can always trust a street character to enlighten us with their chat, and with the city housing more of them than you could fit into Buchanan Street, every so often a clip of an encounter with one such 'legend' is shared online that raises a smile or a chuckle.

The most recent video doing the rounds online is one of a local 'historian' who has shared a huge 'secret' about our beloved Glasgow Subway.

And the hilarious clip has gone viral - notching up an impressive 200,000 views since it was first posted on Twitter by Glasgow illustrator/comedian Paul Dock last night.

The 18-second long video, captioned 'Met a Glasgow Subway historian x', sees the chap tell him while stood on the platform at Kelvinbridge station: "That's the hing we man people don't realise that the Glesga Subway was named after....bellybuttons.

"You've got the 'innie' line and the 'outie' line, and people don't know that - and it's shaped like a bellybutton n all. Bet you didnae know that...you got a fag?."

Naturally everyone who has watched the video has been cracking up with the words of wisdom from the unnamed man, who's face is hidden in the video - especially with the pay-off line of asking him for a fag.

One Twitter user responded with: "After the ‘history lesson’....“Have ye got a fag. I love Glasgow", while another wrote: "Guys like that are hard to find nowadays man. I hope you did give him a fag Paul. His style is class anaw."

They were joined by someone else who wrote: "This is the exact interaction we are all missing. The unplanned character. It's all planned meetups with folk you know with time and numbers restrictions at the moment."
