Glasgow student's beautiful poem to frontline workers appears at London tube station

A Glasgow poet has been left stunned after his tribute poem to frontline workers ended up on a notice board at one of London ’s busiest tube stations.

David Alfred Grimm was overjoyed when he spotted his work featured at Piccadilly Circus earlier today.

The moving poem was displayed by staff at the station and also shared on their official Instagram account.

Social work student David told the workers: “I designed this one as a reminder to all frontline staff that they’re not forgotten and are amazing."

The 19-line poem reads: “You have given us hope

“When the has sun refused to shine

“Your faces have been hidden

“But your eyes… oh how they shine

“Like diamonds in a darkened mine.

“Even through trouble

“And pains, isolated and sick.

“You. Our frontline.

“You kept us alive.

“With subtle glints of hope in your eyes.

“Shining colours.

“Like brightened skies.

“Vermillion emeralds.

“Or chocolate melts.

“All of you.

“Are giving us hope.

“That the future.

“Will shine.

“Once more.”

Speaking today, David explained he submitted the poem to the team but was gobsmacked when they actually used it.

He said said: "It felt surreal if I'm honest.

"When I saw it on their Instagram today it was absolutely wonderful, and it's had over 100 retweet when I put it on twitter which for me is chaotic.

"The poem was a thank you for all frontline staff, i feel that may have had a big part in being displayed."

The emotional poem has proved to be a huge hit with social media users.

One user wrote on Instagram: “This is just beautiful.”

Another added: “This is excellent.”

And one user said: “That is awesome.”
