Glasgow street artist needs your help to solve mysterious letter riddle

A street artist is asking Glaswegians to help solve a mysterious riddle written in a letter addressed to them and left on a road in the west end.

The spooky letter is believed to have been left by someone who stole one of Gornan and Pals' artworks, usually painted on fly-tipped wood and then hung on railings around 'boring parts of the city'.

Although the works are prone to being stolen, Gornan and Pals says that none of the paintings they have left around Glasgow have been taken before before because people think that they add some colour to the local surroundings - until now.

The first theft of one of their paintings, located on Kelvin Way, caused a bit of uproar on social media from the ever-growing fans of their work, with people across the city sharing photos of the missing work online to try and help it be found.

Not longer after that Gornan and Pals received a mysterious message from an Instagram page with no followers to advise them the painting had been put back.

But when Gornan and Pals went to see the returned painting back where it belonged, instead in its place was a little note inside of a sandwich bag to protect it from the rain. On opening it, Gornan and Pals found a letter written to them 'in a lovely Charles Rennie Mackintosh font' from someone saying that they loved the painting 'but thought it would look better on their kitchen wall'.

The note, which refers to Gornan and Pals as 'Ye juicy artist ye', also contained seven letters with arrows above, which to date neither the artists nor code-breaking experts on Reddit forums have been able to decipher.

As a result, the artist is "dying to know" what it means - and they're hoping that someone in Glasgow can solve the riddle.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, they said: "It seems incredibly confusing and interesting. It's such a strange combination of symbols and letters. The riddle could be the person's name or Instagram handle. Someone even suggested directions to their kitchen wall.

"I have tried posting it to reddit code-breaking forums and have come up with some different ideas, however I've had no luck in finding out what it means."

Can anyone out there help Gornan and Pals solve the mysterious riddle? If you think you have cracked it, drop us a message on news@glasgowlive.co.uk
