Officers cordoned off Argyle Street in the city centre after the incident on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the incident was not linked to the attack on Friday on nearby West George Street.

Officers added that there is no danger to the wider public after the incident.

Inspector Gareth Griffiths said: “We were called around 12.10pm on Sunday, 28 June, to a report of an assault in Argyle Street, Glasgow.

“Officers are currently at the scene. We believe this was a targeted assault and we do not believe there is a threat to the wider public.”

Police said a man was taken to hospital with leg injuries after the attack. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, officers added.

Six people were injured in Friday's attack, including a police officer. The attacker was shot dead by police.

The West George Street stabbings are not being treated as a terrorist incident, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Saturday.

David Whyte, the officer injured in the attack, is now in a "stable" condition.
