Glasgow south side to welcome new cat rehoming centre

A cat rehoming centre is set to open in Glasgow's south side to encourage potential adopters to visit.

Cats Protection will be taking over a disused industrial unit on Haggs Road to provide a homing centre for Greater Glasgow.

The charity is looking to move away from rural locations and into urban settings that have good transport connections and easy access for visitors.

Cats Protection currently helps around 200,000 cats and kittens through their volunteer-run branches. The charity rehomes thousands of cats while also taking in felines that have had to be given up by their owners.

Their nearest Glasgow centre is currently based close to Stepps at Cardyke Farm.

The new centre will sit close to Shawlands and will be accessible by bus or via Crossmyloof and Pollokshaws train stations.

Planners have said they anticipate two to three visitors a day adding that it's not an 'operation which attracts a significant number of visitors'.

It will initially be operating on an appointment-only basis.

Glasgow City Council has given permission for the unit to be turned into a homing centre.
