Glasgow soldier 'glassed by pal' in Magaluf nightclub released from hospital

The soldier injured in a Magaluf nightclub incident which saw her army friend arrested has been released from Glasgow solider 'glassed' in Magaluf posts that she is 'alive and that's all that matters'.

Soldier who 'glassed' pal in Magaluf freed as witness recalls seeing Glasgow woman slump to ground, 22, was discharged from Son Espases Hospital in Palma on Friday after more than 24 hours in intensive care and three days on a general ward.

It was not immediately clear if the squaddie, from Irvine, Ayrshire, was still in Majorca or had flown back to the UK to continue her recovery after being hit with a glass in an alleged attack.

Her hospital release came after she told court officials she did not want to press charges against close friend Sydney Cole, 19, who was released from prison and told she could return to Britain.

The pals had jetted to the island on holiday with fellow squaddie Deborah Ferguson.

Newspaper Diario de Mallorca said the army pair had arranged to fly back to the UK together, despite the early-morning incident on Monday at Banana’s nightclub, which nearly cost Sarah Ann her life.

Cole, who is in the Adjutant General Corps and is based in Middlesbrough, will continue to be probed by a court in the Majorcan capital Palma on suspicion of wounding her friend with a dangerous weapon, a crime which carries a prison sentence in Spain of up to five years.

The teenager, whose defence lawyer Miguel Angel Ordinas secured her prison release on Wednesday, has insisted Sarah Ann was hurt in an accident after she threw a glass at the floor during a fight with her following a 14-hour drinking session.

But witnesses have told investigators that Cole, from Hertfordshire, threw the glass directly at her pal’s neck and left her critically injured after the glass broke and she lost a large amount of blood.

Sarah Ann, who is also based in Middlesbrough with the Royal Logistics Corps, reportedly needed 14 stitches.

She told court officials she did not want to press charges when they visited her in hospital on Wednesday.

The decision means she will waive her right to launch her own private prosecution against Cole – which under Spanish law would run separately but parallel to any state prosecution – as well as the right to any compensation if her pal is found guilty of any wrongdoing after a trial.

State prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they want to go ahead with a prosecution.
