A Glasgow based start-up has announced plans to hire more staff as it begins work on developing a review management system for online retailers.
Opinew will be developing the software for the Shopify e-commerce platform, which lets reviews be requested or imported from sites like Amazon and eBay.
Opinew claims to have helped convert more than $25m in online sales, with revenue growing by more than 300% last year.
The company, an Engage Invest Exploit alumni from 2017 and a Scottish EDGE award winner in 2019, was founded by University of Glasgow software engineering graduate Tomasz Sadowski.
It is launching an artificial intelligence-enabled product this month, developed in partnership with the computing science department at the University of Glasgow.
The new feature optimises the display of reviews for online shoppers to ensure that only the most suited content is displayed at all times.
Opinew is forecasting further growth in online shopping, as more bricks and mortar retailers move online. It has so far already employed 10 people and now expects to make additional hires during the year as it readies its first external investment round.
The team is already engaged in discussions with a number of private investors, angel syndicates and venture capital firms.
Chief operating officer Stefan Raue said: “In common with industry commentators and the experience of retailers everywhere, we can see that the Covid-19 pandemic has led to a monumental shift in how people shop.”
