Glasgow software firm launches contact tracing app for businesses

Glasgow software firm Hamill Digital Healthcare has launched an app to help businesses manage their "track and trace" systems in line with data protection laws.

The company, run by former NHS doctor Louise Hamill, developed the SAFE2GO software in response to government guidance that pubs, cafes, hairdressers and other venues should collect customers' contact details.

She says the app will help them to do so in a secure way which complies with GDPR regulations, wile helping NHS contact tracers.

Hamill said: “We developed this app to provide a solution which will support NHS contact tracers and allow businesses to operate safely by recording personal data and visit times.

“SAFE2GO saves staff time and removes the headache and burden involved in data protection regulations as the business never has access to the personal details which are recorded. Additionally, visitors are given the reassurance that they are visiting a venue which is being proactive about contact tracing and being responsible with their personal data.”

SAFE2GO is targeting bars, restaurants, cinemas, stadiums, hospitals, hairdressers, gyms and care homes with the software.

Users ask visitors to log their contact details by scanning a displayed QR code. Personal data is encrypted and stored in a cloud-based system before being automatically deleted after a maximum of 21 days. Businesses can, at the touch of a button, make the encrypted data instantly available for NHS contact tracers.

Members of social care sector industry body Scottish Care are using the app, while wholesaler Dunn's Food & Drinks is working with SAFE2GO to help customers reopen.
