Glasgow skyline baffles University Challenge contestants leaving locals stunned

We're one of the most famous cities in the UK, if not the world, with a skyline instantly recognisable across the globe - or so you'd think.

The Finnieston Crane, the Armadillo, the Hydro, the Squinty Bridge and of course the River Clyde - yes, there are several different clues in there all pointing to the fact you're looking at Glasgow.

If you sit through an episode of University Challenge, you might be forgiven for failing on a number of the usually difficult questions across a broad spectrum of subjects.

So surely when an easy picture round question pops up, you have to get those points in the bag.

However, that's what both Manchester and Exeter University teams failed to do in their head-to-head in the most recent episode.

First, after being shown the Glasgow skyline photo, one of the Manchester contestants plumped for 'Newcastle', before a member on the Exeter team volunteered 'Gateshead' as a possible answer. Nae points all round.

The responses of course left Glaswegians in a state of shock, laughter and fury, as dozens no doubt screamed at the TV.

After a clip of the moment caught traction on Twitter, one user said: "My 8-year-old got that right then laughed at the answers".

Another suggested the contestants were 'too young to have watched Taggart', while a further viewer commented: Shouting 'It' s Glasgow!' at the telly will not make the University Challenge teams recognise Clydeside.

A real head in hands moment for those watching last night.
