Glasgow shopping centres have been given the go-ahead to fully reopen to the public next month after Nicola Sturgeon announced the key dates for easing lockdown.
Silverburn and Buchanan Galleries have both confirmed to Glasgow Live that they expect to officially reopen on July 13, with Glasgow Fort confirming they will reopen fully as of Monday (June 29) with new signage to help visitors to maintain a two-metre distance from others.
Fellow shopping centres such as the St Enoch Centre and The Forge Shopping Centre expected to make similar announcements in the near future.
At the moment, the interiors of shopping centres in Scotland remain closed except for access to essential shops such as supermarkets and pharmacists.
While many non-essential shops will be able to open from June 29, the rule only applies to those with street access and not those within shopping centres, meaning these shops will need to wait a couple of weeks more.
A spokeswoman for Silverburn confirmed to Glasgow Live their plans to officially reopen on July 13, in line with the latest guidance from the Scottish Government.
Although the final date will be confirmed following the Government’s next review, which is due on July 9.
The news comes amid uncertainty over the future of Braehead Shopping Centre after owners Intu asked KPMG to draw up a plan to take them into administration.
The move could see the retail landlord's portfolio of shopping centres, including the popular Renfrew mall near the River Clyde, closed in the near future.
