Glasgow shopping centre evacuated amid reports of 'suspicious item'

A Scots shopping centre has been evacuated amid reports of a 'suspicious item' being found outside.

Police were called to St Enoch's Centre, close to Dunlop Street in Glasgow at around 4.10pm on Friday, May 6.

Officers have said that the complex has been evacuated as a precautionary measure and enquiries are ongoing.

A police presence remains at the scene while part of the surrounding area is cordoned off, Glasgow Live reports.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.10pm on Friday, 6 May, officers were called to a report of a suspicious item outside the St Enoch Centre, near Dunlop Street, Glasgow.

"Officers are at the scene and the area is currently cordoned off.

"The centre has been evacuated as a precaution and enquiries are ongoing."
