Glasgow sex attacker violently raped woman while she was sleeping and ripped out her hair

A sex attacker who violently raped a woman who was initially asleep has been jailed for seven years.

Andrew McLean attacked his victim at a flat in Glasgow's Thornliebank on September 6 2020.

The 41 year-old ex-chef had denied the crime, but was found guilty by jurors after a trial.

After the verdict at the High Court in Glasgow, prosecutor Bill McVicar revealed McLean already had a string of convictions including a jail-term for assault.

Sentencing, Lord Beckett told McLean: "You raped the woman while she was asleep.

"When she awoke and protested, you raped her again causing her many injuries including pulling out her hair.

"You done this while she was vulnerable. Your own intoxication is no excuse."

The judge back-dated the sentence to April 2021 as McLean had previously spent time on remand.

McLean was further placed on the sex offenders list and a non harassment order made banning him from contacting the victim.

Both were for an indefinite period. McLean showed no emotion as he was lead handcuffed to the cells.
