Glasgow schools are waiting to find out if they will be successful in winning up to £50,000 of funding from the National Lottery as part of the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations.
All state schools will close on Friday, June 3, 2022, for the long weekend to mark Her Majesty’s 70-year-reign which falls on Monday, June 6.
Education officers also have the choice to add an extra day’s holiday on Thursday, June 2 and Glasgow City Council has confirmed its schools will close on this day.
A series of public events with a mix of traditional pageantry displays are expected to be hosted throughout Glasgow and a jubilee medal will also be created and awarded to public services workers including representatives of the Armed Forces, the emergency services and Her Majesty’s prison.
Primary and secondary schools were also been made aware of the National Lottery funding programme which they could apply to for help hosting events in the local community.
Funding pots are between £30,000 and £50,000 over two years.
Creators of the Platinum Jubilee fund want to fund projects that create a greater legacy, support new opportunities, and build better relationships with one another, across generations and with the natural world.
They will also consider projects that draw on the creativity of the community, want to do something new and inventive, bring new opportunities and make use of sites of local significance.
The deadline to submit a bid was Wednesday, December 15, and the final decisions on the successful projects made by spring 2022.

Glasgow schools will then close at 1pm on Friday, June 24 for the summer holiday.
