Glasgow school shortlisted for major education award

A Glasgow school had been shortlisted for a major education award.

The Glasgow Academy, in the city's west end, has been nominated for 'Best use of technology' in the annual Times Education Supplement (Tes) Awards

The private school, that has sites across Kelvinbridge, Milngavie and Newlands, was selected by a panel of expert judges - including school leaders, inspectors and education researchers.

The Tes Awards 2022 select the very best in education from across the country, rewarding hard work across all settings and age groups.

Williamsburgh Primary School in Renfrewshire is the only other Scottish school to have made it on to the highly comptetitive shortlist, having also earned a nomination in the 'Best use of technology' category.

Now in their 14th year, this year's ceremony will be the time since that start of covid that the awards will be announced in person at a glitzy event at the Grosvenor Park Hotel in London.

Celebrities such as Harry Hill and Greg Davies have previously presented awards.

Tes editor and chair of judges, Jon Severs, said: "This year has seen an incredibly high standard of entries to the Tes Schools Awards.

"Every teacher and school who has been nominated should be incredibly proud - it's a fantastic achievement.

"We are looking forward to showcasing, as we do every year, just how vital our education professionals are to every facet of this country.

"Teachers, leaders and support staff have all played an enormous role as schools have battled with immense challenges over the past few years; this is our chance to say thank you for all that they do.

"After two years of virtual awards ceremonies, we are looking forward to celebrating our education heroes in person once again."
