Glasgow school pupils given iPads to 'close the attainment gap'

Pupils across Glasgow are being given iPads to help close the attainment gap, it was announced yesterday.

The project, the biggest in Europe, will see all pupils from P6 to S6 receive their own Apple tablet.

There will also be shared iPads between five children in nurseries and pupils in P1 to P5.

The multi-million pound IT contract will benefit almost 70,000 children and young people in the city’s schools and nurseries.

Education bosses say that by 2021, every Glasgow teacher and their pupils will have access to their equipment, which includes a core suite of best-in-class education apps.

The first pupils, S2/3 at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary, have been getting to grips with their devices since before the summer.

Councillor Chris Cunningham said: “This project will result in raising attainment and achievement in every one of our schools and nurseries.”
