Glasgow school Christmas holiday and term dates - as it stands

It's a little over three weeks until Christmas, and even less time until the schools finish up for the festive season.

Over recent days, there has been plenty of speculation over whether this year's school Christmas holidays will be extended on account of the coronavirus crisis.

Calls have been made for an extension of the break following announcement of the five-day relaxation of covid-19 restrictions over Christmas.

COSLA has put forward proposals for the school holiday to run for over three weeks, from December 18 until January 11.

The Daily Record reported council leaders debated the subject, proposed by government ministers, at a Covid-19 Education Recovery Group meeting last Thursday.

A final decision on the proposed holiday extension is to be taken by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and other Scottish Ministers this week, according to a leaked document.

However, the mooted plans have yet to be put into action and as such, school term dates remain unchanged.

Therefore, as it stands, according to Glasgow City Council, here's when schools will break up over the festive period:

  • Schools close at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 22 December 2020
  • Wednesday 23 December 2020 to Tuesday 5 January 2021 (Christmas holidays)
  • Schools return on Wednesday 6 January 2021

The next school holiday would then be in February, the mid-term break falling between Friday February 5 and Wednesday February 10.
