Glasgow salon boss reveals what customers confess to her during appointments

Salon boss Ashleigh Anderson thinks some customers see a visit to get their make-up or eyebrows done as a therapy session.

Ashleigh, 28, runs FACE semi-permanent and cosmetic make-up salons in Glasgow and Aberdeen with her sister Chloe, 26.

She said: “When I’m doing eyebrows, especially, I’m in a room with that person for maybe over an hour. I think they think the bed is a therapy session more than anything.

“It can be anything from being the first to hear gossip and affairs. People completely open up and they forget how small Glasgow and Aberdeen are.

“People will be talking about someone and I think, ‘I’ve got them coming in, in a couple of weeks’ time’.

“People tell me all sorts. They might want to leave their husband. And lots of times it’s relationship advice I give.

“Now I feel, because I’m in a really good relationship, I can give advice out. Before, people would ask me and I wouldn’t have a clue when I was younger.

“I feel like a sex therapist quite a lot of the time as well. People will tell me about their sexual experiences and ask me questions. Nothing shocks me.”

A lot of her clients have ended up as good friends and they’ll socialise. And she admits she’ll often be open about her own life.

But Ashleigh would never reveal what she’s been told, saying: “What happens in the eyebrow room stays in the eyebrow room. It’s client confidentiality.”

Not as much is
revealed in the make-up room though, where there are 10 people working in the Glasgow branch and four in Aberdeen – but being able to listen is
still important.

Ashleigh said: “You need to be good at speaking to people in this job. You’re providing a service and you want that person to come back.

“You’re not going to judge so a lot of people feel they can speak to you. I personally like it. It’s really good to know that your clients have trust in you.”
