Glasgow's The Wendy Bar slaps customers with 20% discount - but some mistake it for parking fine

A venue in the west end gave a number of lucky customers 20% off - but some were taken aback after initially thinking they'd been slapped with a parking fine.

The Wendy Bar, on Byres Road, recently opened and serves up cocktails, food and delicious drinks from strawberry daiquiris to milk chocolate martini's.

The team wanted to treat a selection of lucky customers to a discount and slapped vehicles with a 'golden ticket' which can be used in store to get money off their food bill.

In a Facebook post, the bar wrote: "If you were 'lucky' enough to get one of our golden tickets this morning. Enjoy your 20% off."

One customer replied: "Got a total shock - and then a pleasant surprise! Great idea."

But it didn't go down too well with everyone as some customers reportedly woke up with "anxiety" after spotting the ticket on their motors.

The golden ticket is 20% off your food bill when you go into The Wendy Bar (The Wendy Bar)

One person tweeted: "Shocking PR from The Wendy in Glasgow. Seen neighbours scrambling to their cars with anxiety this morning.

"In the Cost of Living Crisis, why does anyone think faking parking tickets is a good way to promote their bar?"

A spokesperson for The Wendy Bar told Glasgow Live: "We hope the lovely people of the West End can see the funny side of our playful marketing gimmick.

"Ideally they take us up on the discount and we can look forward to welcoming them into our new Byres Road venue for some comfort food and cocktails."

Located at 71-77 Byres Road, The Wendy Bar is open from 12pm to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12pm to 12am from Sunday to Thursday. To find out more about the newest west end bar or to book a table, visit their website here.
