Glasgow's shag festival is back for another year

Glasgow's Shag Festival is back for its fifth edition this summer... and it sounds like a ball.

The annual event is celebrating a good old-fashioned Shag, which originated in South Carolina, US, in the 1940s. It's usually described as a kind of swing dancing, so you can all get your minds out of the gutter.

There are five levels of classes to suit all abilities, whether you're a complete beginner, a seasoned Shagger or a wee bit rusty.

The festival is taking place over the weekend July 3-6.

From Friday to Sunday, dance school Glasgow Jitterbugs are hosting four parties with live music, six-hour core classes, performances, competitions and some homemade cake to keep you fuelled. Let's face it, you might work up a bit of an appetite.

They've also got a surprise in store for the Monday: Previous 'bonus day' bonanzas have included a "shag-off in a bouncy castle," a swing dance murder mystery and a private vintage cinema. Variety is the spice of life, folks.

The venue is yet to be announced but you can keep your eye on the Facebook event page for more updates.

Registrations open at 12pm GMT on Saturday February 29. Ticket link will appear on this page and on the website: www.glasgowshagfestival.com
